School Leadership Teams

School Leadership Teams

At the Nightingale Federation, our pupil groups provide an exciting opportunity for children to let their light shine by actively contributing to our Federation community. The aim of these groups is to empower our students to take on leadership roles, where they can share their ideas, raise concerns, and work together to improve their school experience. The purpose is to ensure that every child’s voice is heard, creating a school environment where all students feel valued and respected.

By taking part, pupils develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, debate and decision-making, all while learning the importance of democracy and responsibility. The objectives of the Nightingale Federation’s student groups are to encourage positive change, promote kindness, and build a supportive culture where everyone is inspired to shine bright. Through their involvement, pupils are not only shaping our Federation’s future but also growing into confident, compassionate leaders.

We currently have the following teams within our schools:

  • School Council
  • Ethos Team
  • Eco Council
  • Digital Leaders
  • Reading Ambassadors

School Council

Our Student Council’s are made up of elected representatives from each year group, from Reception to Year Six, alongside Mr Allott and Mrs O’Sullivan. Our aim is to be active listeners and strong voices for the children across our academies. In our regular meetings, we focus on both internal and external philanthropic issues, working to raise money for projects that benefit not only our school community but also the wider world. Throughout the year, we take part in a variety of activities, such as running events like cake sales, dressing-up days, and other fundraising initiatives. We also organise fun and creative lunchtime activities, including indoor games and crafts, as well as events dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing. Above all, we work together to improve the aspects of school life that matter most to our fellow pupils, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and valued.

Ethos Team

Our Ethos Teams have been created democratically, with children keen to take on responsibilities stating their case before their classes, before being elected from each year group across our schools. The teams meet regularly with Mr Wade or Miss Wharton, and are on occasions joined by our local Reverends.

The aim of our teams is to share our school values and embed our Federation vision

that every child can ‘let their light shine’ through discussion, activities and giving the

children an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings.

Following our meetings, the teams often head off to feed back to their classes to

share activities and gather opinions. Already this year, the teams have:

  • Organised their peers to share ‘how they let their light shine’ as part of values trees
  • Taken an active role in collective worship, church services and school events
  • Written and shared prayers linked to our values
  • Led activities within their classes to allow reflection upon our values
  • Discussed our schools with governors and Academy Trust representatives

On the horizon, our teams will be working on developing areas for spirituality and reflection within our schools.

The Nightingale Federation Ethos Teams give our children a voice, an opportunity for responsibility and help support all fellow children live out our academy values.

Eco Council

Our Eco-Council’s, sometimes referred to as Eco-Warriors, are made up of elected representatives from each year group across school (Reception to Year Six) and they are led by Mr Johnson, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Warnes. Our aim is to share our passion and enthusiasm to create a school full of children with a love for the natural world and make our school more environmentally friendly. In our regular meetings we shall be focussing on wider environmental issues and trying to find ways to take action whilst we also hope to take part in a number of smaller projects throughout the year, such as but not limited to…

  • Recycling & Energy Saving Drives: we want to be responsible for our waste, organise it and teach others what can and cannot be recycled. We need to remind everyone to save energy wherever possible, be that turning lights off or switching off plugs when not in use.
  • Planting & Gardening: We’re hoping to help keep the school grounds green by planting flowers, possibly vegetables and trees. We hope this will encourage wildlife such as bees and butterflies.
  • Litter Picking: We want our school to always be clean and tidy.
  • Eco Awareness Days & Charity Events: We hope to take part in large scale eco events e.g. Earth Day or Bee Day. We would like to educate our friends and teachers about these days and why they’re so important.

The Nightingale Federation’s Eco Council’s give our children a voice and help everyone work together to care for the environment.”

Digital Leaders

Digital leaders are pupils, from Key Stage 2, who are selected to take on responsibilities related to technology and digital learning. They are led by Miss king and Miss Allen. They play a vital role in supporting their peers and teachers in using digital tools and resources effectively. In a setup with two digital leaders per class, their duties include:

  • Looking after digital resources
  • Promoting online safety
  • Supporting technology in lessons
  • Providing feedback
  • Providing peer support

The goals for digital leaders this year are focused on enhancing the use of technology across the school, supporting peers and staff and promoting safe, responsible and creative use of digital resources. Key goals include:

  • Setting up a KS1 Computing club
  • Maintaining and managing digital resources
  • Promoting online safety
  • Supporting learning through technology
  • Being role models for digital learning

Our Digital Leaders deliver a whole school assembly and create resources to help classes engage with Safer Internet Day.

Reading Ambassadors

At Thomas Bullock, our ‘Reading Ambassadors’ are made up of eight representatives from each of the classes in Key Stage 2. Members were carefully selected after applying for the position. In their applications, children had to convince us of their passion for books and all things reading. Mrs Henman, Year 5 Class teacher and English lead, leads the group and we meet weekly. They aim to share their passion and enthusiasm to create a school full of children with a love for Reading.

Their responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and promoting ‘Reading for Pleasure’ initiatives such as our ‘Reading Scrapbooks’.
  • Planning special days and reading events e.g. World Book Day,
  • Organising and tidying the library area
  • Preparing reading displays across the school.
  • Support in fundraising and selecting books to supplement what we already have to offer our pupils.
  • Speak to visitors about reading at our school.
